KMI ALUMNI DATABASE IS NOW "ON LINE"!
(Click on the above link - Registration required!)

I have made the effort to learn how to create a webpage to access the current KMI Alumni database kept by Jim Burrows, '53.  You now have the ability, on this website, to display the roster of all "registered" alumni for any class between 1929 and 1975.  You can now display the contact information for all KMI alumni living in any state, sorted by class year.  Lastly, you can now search and display the last names of all the alumni in the database with at least three letters in their last name.  There are also a few "hidden gems" you can display but that's for you to discover!
As always, please email me (jim@kmialumni.org) or Jim Burrows (N4LRM@BELLSOUTH.NET) if you find any errors or omissions in the data.  Jim Burrows will provide www.kmialumni.org with updates of the entire database from time to time.  ENJOY . . .

Col. Donald A. Seibert - KMI Staff 1953-55
The Regulars, is a detailed account of extraordinary career of a life in the military, through three of the biggest conflicts of our time, as experienced from one member of its ranks. Colonel Seibert had an incredible career spanning 32 years, and his accounts of combat, heroism, and day to day life in the military are great reading for all. The details of the friendships made, the inner politics and leadership issues, are an insightful and interesting narrative of military life. His assignments in the Pacific, Korea, the Pentagon, Ft. Hood, Germany, Vietnam, take the reader to places and activities that few have witnessed. Although written at the end of his military career, as a tribute to the Regulars of the Armed Forces of the United States, of which he proudly served, one can't help but feel the pride that this highly decorated veteran, who served with distinction, felt as he climbed the hierarchy of the military.

SIMPSON, DIANE RICHMOND, 80, passed away in the presence of her family at Baptist Hospital East on June 29, 2010.
Diane was the granddaughter of Lincoln Dixon, a U.S. Congressman from Indiana, and the daughter of her beloved parents, Colonel Charles Blair Richmond and Dorothy Dixon Richmond.   Colonel Richmond was president of Kentucky Military Institute in Lyndon, KY and Venice, FL, one of the oldest private military preparatory schools in the country. Diane was an honorary member of the KMI cadet corps, and met her future husband, William Taylor Simpson, when he joined the KMI faculty. She was a fixture on the bench for countless KMI basketball games coached by her husband and was called for a technical foul on at least one occasion. Diane was also director of the Country Day Camp at KMI for many years, which provided summer activities for young campers and employment for Louisville area teenagers.   Diane was a graduate of the Louisville Collegiate School and many of her Collegiate classmates remained her dear friends for life. She received a B.S. degree in religion from Sweetbriar College in Virginia.   Diane was active in community affairs, including the Junior League of Louisville and the Metro United Way, and served on the Board of Directors at Camp Piomingo. She was a member of, and authored the visitor guide for, the Children's Hospital Auxiliary, and was a regular volunteer at Kosair Children's Hospital, where she cared for premature babies in the neonatal unit.   Diane, a devout Episcopalian, was a communicant at St. Francis in the Fields for over 40 years, where she taught church school, served on the Vestry, and completed a three-year ministry course. More recently she joined St. Matthews Episcopal Church, which she found to be a spiritually fulfilling environment for the last five years of her life.  Diane is survived by Bill, her husband of 58 years, her sons, Kennedy (Sara), Richmond (Susan) and Taylor (Melinda); and the grandchildren she adored, Tierney, Storey, Blair, Will, Palmer, Maclin, Ryan and Darcy Simpson.

Died peacefully at her home in Lexington, KY on Jan 15, 2010 at the age of 90. Born and raised in Louisville, KY, she was granddaughter of the city's chief of police and daughter of the first woman to drive an automobile there. At the beginning of World War II, while working as the assistant to the general manager of the Westinghouse Electric plant in Louisville, Margaret met and later married William A. As her husband rose through the ranks of industry, eventually becoming chairman and CEO of the former American Standard Companies, Margaret provided him unfailing support while they lived in 28 different homes in the United States, Jamaica and Mexico and traveled the world. Known to all for her immaculate and elegant style and grace, Margaret was an excellent ballroom dancer (having taught numerous Kentucky Military Institute cadets their proper steps)

  •   John Fitch
John Cooper Fitch (born August 4, 1917)KMI '35? He was the first American to race automobiles successfully in Europe in the postwar era.  Fitch attended Kentucky Military Institute, then studied civil engineering at Lehigh University. He was the first racing team manager for Corvette (in 1956 and 1957) and he was the first general manager of the Lime Rock race course. John Fitch is well known as a true pioneer in Corvette racing, and is considered racer extraordinaire. He was the Sports Car Club of America's first national champion; he won the second Sebring 12-hour race in 1953, and in the same year was declared "Driver of the Year" by Speed Age Magazine. Fitch was the only American ever to drive for the Mercedes-Benz factory team, and also raced the Corvette "SS" and the test mule, which later became the Sting Ray Racer. He was the first manager of Connecticut's Lime Rock Park Raceway, and is noted as one of the prime movers behind the project's beginning, and is still involved with the raceway's operations.

After retiring from racing, Fitch became a successful specialty car builder and safety engineer, and developed the "Fitch Barriers", the familiar yellow crash barrels we see on highways and racetracks, which have saved the lives of many motorists. Fitch was also responsible for conducting the world's first Advanced Driving School. (Corvette Hall of Fame)
