Dear Fellow Kentucky Military Institute Cadets, ladies and gentlemans:
During the Gala night at the “Plantation Club” in Venice , Florida while Presentations were taking place I have had received a wonderful surprise from my good friend Leon Hirsch. I was shocked to hear that you guys, had unanimously agreed to make me an “Honorary Kentucky Military Institute Cadet, therefore, words did not came to my mouth due to the heat of the moment, but, now, in the peaceful lness of my chair, I want to express some serious words of gratitude.
This is a big privilege for me. I feel the necessity to address all of you and express my deepest feelings of gratitude for the this Honorary Title that I received from all of you. I have had always follow the old saying: “that: “Honor to whom honor is due” 'That is why with warmest feelings and admiration I want to bring the name our unforgettable Mr Steve Rains , a man who left us early and suddenly in September 2012.
He was well known for most of you as also known to you as "Rainsey" the guy with the most unique and contagious laugh. For all the stories that I heard Stevie is the kind of men who left their mark anywhere he stepped, since I met his wife at that time, my wife now, Brenda, her and all her family and friends did nothing but have conversations about his character, qualities, virtues and wonderful personalityas much as how Steve alluded to the K.M.I. motto : "CHARACTER MAKES THE MAN”.
That is an emblematic phrase among us, KCadets, and inspired by this premise, I have been reading and learning more about the History of our almost Centennial and noble Institution that you guys provide me with.
Such a reward follow Stevie steps. Be a husband that care, love and walk hand by hand with Brenda, his wife at the time he past away. Now, this Cuban man from La Habana is the one who dig worthily carry this legacy with love, passion and commitment.
I want you to know that I will always be willing to cooperate and help in whatever is necessary in order to keep our Collegiate body active. I am a new Partner in this brotherhood but beyond that I am your unconditional friend.
Sincerely,
Israel Hernandez LaCosta
HONORARY K.M.I.CADET
