Major Bernard A. Hewes

Telephone conference call at the 2003 All Class Reunion Banqet
taken by telephone by Leon Hirsh on May 17, 2003)

"When Leon told me I would have to sing for my dinner,
I wasn't sure how to keep you awake - kind of like history class."

Close to 88th birthday!  how have I lived so long.
"There is a caveat
    Hair is gone.
    Feet Flat.
    Nothing in between works well."

Fight Longevity? "Smoke, eat a lot of cheddar cheese."

"Five Reasons for Longevity.

  1. Believe in higher power.
  2. Right Career
  3. Active sense of humor
  4. Laugh Doctor - keep eyes & ears open for things that make you laugh.
Try to accumulate good jokes to fall back on.
  5. Proper diet - I have blood tested every three weeks to make sure cheating is not excessive."

"I had no career aspirations when I got to Indiana University.  I had to put something on the form.  I put education and I have never regreted it."

"The reasons for my longevity are sitting before me now."

"As much as I would love to be there in person and look each of you in the eye, and I assure you that no words can express the depth of my gratitide."

"Thank you and goodbye."
